The shape in this slab was alive. A shelled animal, a relative of squid, drifting in a warm sea hundreds of millions of years ago.

It sank into mud and got buried before it could rot. Then somebody in Morocco cut the rock, poured acid over it to lift the fossils out, and blackened the background so they would show.

Aries, you have never been able to wait for anything to finish.

Speed got rewarded early, probably by an adult who noticed you when you were quick and not otherwise. A slow thing now feels like a failing thing, so you go at it until something gives.

The animal is real. The contrast was helped.

Look closely at one of the cones. There are walls across it, sealed chambers, and a fine tube running down the middle of the lot.

Nothing about that was the animal's choice. A saw in a workshop decided where it would be opened, and the black around it was added afterwards.
