What it is

Discrete circular orbs scattered across a chalcedony groundmass, each orb has a distinct core and one or more concentric rings, like a target or a fried egg, and the orbs sit separately rather than merging into continuous bands. Radiating fibrous texture inside each orb is visible under 10x. Frequently contains small druzy quartz vugs, tiny sparkling cavities lined with crystals, which is close to diagnostic. Colours are soft: sage, cream, dusty pink, buttercream.
How to tell
Look for druzy pockets and true concentric orbs with radiating interiors. Leopardskin jasper's spots are blotchier, browner and lack fine concentric rings; crazy lace has continuous folded bands, not separate circles. Scratches glass.
Untreated. The original Marovato deposit is exhausted; newer Madagascan material is sold under the same name and is generally paler.
